I'm as big a McCabe fan as anyone,
But captain?
No way
Kid hasn't even played 100 games yet
Same with Eichel & Reinhart

O'Reilly is the next captain, no doubt

From the last blog...

It would be after this season so hopefully 150+ games played. Hes been a captain at basically every level hes played at and been successful at it. If hes well respected in the locker room I dont see why not. Not like he'd be the youngest ever or anything like that. I agree it's likely to be O'Reilly just personally not at the top of my list.

Just out of curiosity, we have heard your reasons WHY you think others would be good captains.

Why DON'T you think ROR would be.

If he hits say 25 goals in 75 games do you keep him or do you take advantage of his risen value and trade him while you can?

The checklist for being worthy of wearing the C is different for a lot of people but the most common ones you hear are either

a)leadership experience
b) face of the franchise

O'Reilly is neither. Yes hes the 1c for now but i doubt that lasts (not a knock on him but i fully expect eichel to overtake him this year). The way Pachla described McCabe the other day (leading without the letter)...that's what i envision o'reilly being going forward.

How does ROR not deserve a captaincy?

I'm very surprised that you focus on McCabe as the one who is "leading without the letter." From everything we hear about the ROR practices, and his locker room demeanor, I think ROR is the one is way out in front in that regard.

If he has a good year and his trade value rises, move him at the deadline. He can be replaced in the lineup by Nylander.

Thats true and if/when ROR is named captain I doubt anyone including myself will be upset with the decision I just pictured him staying as that kind of "lead without the letter" player going forward.

Seems like a step back though no? Even if Nylander is ready by the deadline of this season is he going to step in and score 25 right away?

ROR exhibits all of the qualities of earning the C. After Gionta is gone, the one player who is on a long term contract, great in the locker room and displays the qualities of leadership gets the nod. That's Ryan O'Reilly imo.

Technically once gionta is gone there will be two other guys eligible for a long term deal that probably fit this description too. And they're better overall than he is.

We might lose him at the expansion draft or when he's a UFA in 2018 so if we can make a trade and get decent value back, I would highly consider it.

nylander

then a bunch of crap at lw

best thing for this team is a focused kane, and an extension

I don't want stink, stank and stunk playing lw on the other 3 lines

You don't hand the captaincy to the best player. ROR has been through the wars, displays great leadership on/off the ice. He would be my choice. He always was my choice. Give the A's to Risto, Eichel and Lenner.

You don't? How many teams have a captain who isn't their best player?
